Tranquillity Infant Massage
As a Mum, I found massage helped in easing my child to sleep after a bath in the evening. As an instructor I have seen babies fall asleep at the end of the session (much to the pleasure of their parents). There is a stroke that is used to calm and relax babies during stressful times, i.e.: injections or blood tests. I have worked with numerous parents who have used the Colic Relief Routine – a specific set of strokes to ease colic, wind and constipation – as the only thing that helped their babies. I have also devised a routine that can be used for babies with severe eczema, allowing them to enjoy being touched as opposed to having creams rubbed into their skin. Along with many parents, I often use the strokes that ease a sluggish digestion. Other strokes may help with teething and congestion during colds and coughs.

Why Massage?
The first few weeks and months after the birth of a baby can be both joyful and challenging. The first few weeks are hard; you are learning about your baby’s likes and dislikes, their behaviour and needs. You are also learning how your body changes as a mother as well as changes in your relationship with your partner.
Baby massage classes can help support parents through this time of change by allowing them the time and space to nurture themselves as well as their babies. Classes and one to one sessions allow parents the time to talk to someone else (other parents and the instructor) about themselves and their babies.
Infant Massage
Infant Massage has been proven to relax both parent and baby promoting better sleep patterns, building parent's confidence in baby's cues and enhances baby’s feeling of being loved, respected and secure. It also helps to alleviate colic and/or wind, constipation, teething pain and bouts of crying. Infant massage is used as to help mothers with post-natal depression, as a way for them to feel loved and to increase the bond between them and their baby. Research has shown that eye contact between babies and their parents improves greatly after attending a series of infant massage classes.
At what age can I massage my baby? Babies can be massaged from birth all the way up to older children and teenagers. The strokes are adapted for different age groups, making it fun and interesting for the child.
Infant massage can be enjoyed by all babies, including those that are premature and/or with special needs.
Course details A course in Infant Massage lasts five weeks. Groups are small (between five and eight) and advance booking is required. Courses are available in Pitstone, Tring and the surrounding villages. It is a great way to meet other parents. Alternatively, groups of friends may organise courses in their own homes at a time to suit them.
Each session lasts an hour and a half to two hours and includes relaxation for parents, massaging a different part of your baby's body each week, refreshments and a chance to chat about parenting issues. The course fee includes handouts and articles, a small bottle of sunflower oil, the loan of parenting books and magazines, all refreshments and a Course Certificate
One-to-one sessions in your home (or mine) may suit you best and can include your partner and older children. These sessions last for one hour over 3 or 4 weeks. If your baby is already crawling it's not too late to start massaging.
