Lollipop Cloth Nappies
Lollipop is a long established and respected name offering impartial advice and sales of a wide range of leading brand reusable cloth nappies and accessories in the form of demonstrations normally held in my own home. I hope that I can assist you in choosing the right nappy system for you. I have excellent first-hand experience as I have used all the nappies in the Lollipop range on my daughter since birth, so together we will come up with a system that suits your lifestyle, budget and baby.
One of the reasons I decided to promote cloth nappies in my local area is to dispel the myths surrounding cloth nappies and to help parents decide which nappies would be best for them..
Common myths associated with using cloth nappies:
- You have to soak nappies in buckets before you wash them
- You have to boil wash them
- Nappies in buckets smell
- The only choice you have are terries and plastic pants
- You shouldn’t use cloth until your baby is at least 10wks old
- Cloth makes your baby’s bottom look big
- Cloth delays your baby’s walking
- They take ages to dry
- Big safety pins scratch your baby’s skin
Today’s cloth nappies have velcro, poppers or you can use a nifty bit of kit called a nippa (which replaces the safety pin). They can be as an all-in-one, a stuffable, muslins/terries, prefolds or a 2-part system (nappy & wrap). There are also nappies that are suitable from birth to potty. The nappies come in various colours and materials, including organic and fleece. They do not have to be big and bulky, the only time they are huge is when they are boosted at night. Most of the nappies can be washed at 40 degrees using a sanitiser to save electricity.
There’s no stinky poo sitting in buckets as most people use liners. When you change the nappy, you flush the liner down the toilet and put the nappy in the bucket in a mesh. When the bucket is full, you take out the mesh and put it in the machine – that’s it, HONESTLY!
All in One nappies are shaped and come complete with a built in waterproof cover. These are as simple to use as disposables. These are slower to dry and are generally the most expensive type of nappy.
Shaped nappies dry quicker than all in ones, but slower than terries. These use a separate waterproof wrap over the top of the nappy. They normally come in 2 sizes
A Birth to potty nappy means that only one set of nappies needs to be purchased as they are adjusted with poppers for your babies size, they can be more expensive initially.
Terries or prefolds are ideal for smaller babies, very quick to dry and can be used in combination with many different types of nappies.
Stuffables have an attached waterproof cover but have a pocket so you can put in terries, prefolds or inserts. These work out as more expensive than a 2-part system and you will need more as you have to wash every time you use but they are quick to dry.
Weenees offer the best of both worlds; they can be 100% cloth or when out and about can be used with a biodegradable pad which unlike other 'eco' disposables really is 100% biodegradable. These will require less washing.
A few facts about disposable nappies:
Each baby will need between 4500-6000 nappy changes from birth to potty training. This equates to 2.5 tonnes of rubbish if the baby is wearing disposable nappies.
Every disposable nappy that has ever been thrown on to a landfill site will probably still be there.
Each day in Bucks, we throw away a staggering 87,000 disposables.
Disposables make up for half of your family’s waste a week
The chemicals used in baby’s nappies were banned in women’s sanitary products years ago
Depending on the system you choose, you can save between £500 and £1250! Just think what you could buy instead…….
All demonstrations I do are free and no-obligation. If you do decide to order nappies through me then I'll always be on hand to answer questions and help with any issues that may arise at any time during your child’s life in nappies.
I do not charge for delivery if orders are over £100
I have a hire kit available to allow you to try different types of nappies on your baby before buying a set.
As a Lollipop advisor, I also can offer a 10% discount on Cut4Cloth (clothes made specifically for cloth bottomed babies) and PHP (The Baby Catalogue).
